Coronation Street UK in New Zealand: Channel, Nights and Where to Stream

Coronation Street screens in New Zealand on TVNZ 1 on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday nights, with a half-hour screening at lunchtime on weekdays, and it streams free on TVNZ+. TVNZ calls them “express episodes from the UK”, but how many days New Zealand sits behind ITV is not yet confirmed. The night-time start shifts from one evening to the next, so the table below is worth a look before you set the recorder.
What time is Coronation Street on in New Zealand?
Late evening on TVNZ 1, and not at a fixed minute. In the Freeview guide we read on Wednesday 7 October, the Wednesday episode starts at 9.25pm, Thursday's at 9.50pm and the following Tuesday's at 9.55pm. The lunchtime screening is steadier: 1.30pm every weekday, straight after Emmerdale at 1pm.
The guide was open as far as Wednesday 14 October. This is every Coronation Street listing in it.
| Date (NZ) | TVNZ 1 at night | TVNZ 1 daytime | Stream |
|---|---|---|---|
| Wednesday 7 October | 9.25pm to 10.25pm | 1.30pm | TVNZ+ |
| Thursday 8 October | 9.50pm to 10.20pm | 1.30pm | TVNZ+ |
| Friday 9 October | Not listed | 1.30pm | TVNZ+ |
| Saturday 10 October | Not listed | Not listed | TVNZ+ |
| Sunday 11 October | Not listed | Not listed | TVNZ+ |
| Monday 12 October | Not listed | 1.30pm | TVNZ+ |
| Tuesday 13 October | 9.55pm to 10.25pm | 1.30pm | TVNZ+ |
| Wednesday 14 October | 9.35pm to 10.30pm | 1.30pm | TVNZ+ |
Two things stand out. Wednesday is the long night, an hour on 7 October and 55 minutes on 14 October, while Tuesday and Thursday get half an hour each. And Wednesday's start moved by ten minutes between the two weeks, so last week's time isn't a safe guide to this week's.
What channel is Coronation Street on in NZ?
TVNZ 1, for both the night and lunchtime screenings. It's a free-to-air channel, so an aerial or a satellite dish with a Freeview box gets it without a subscription, and Sky carries TVNZ 1 as well. Our Freeview vs Sky comparison goes through what each option includes.
The Freeview guide shows no Coronation Street on TVNZ 2 or Duke in the eight days we read. Emmerdale is the soap with a second home: besides TVNZ 1 at 1pm on weekdays, the guide lists it on TVNZ 2 in the small hours, a little after 1am.
Where can I stream Coronation Street in New Zealand?
TVNZ+, which is free with ads. Its show page says: “New episodes Tuesday-Thursday. Double episodes display the first episode number in each pairing.” So new episodes arrive on the same three days the show has a night slot on TVNZ 1.
That note about double episodes explains something that trips people up. If the episode numbers on TVNZ+ seem to skip one, it's most likely a pairing filed under the first number, not a missing episode. The page listed two season folders when we looked on Wednesday 7 October.
TVNZ+ needs a free account. Our guide to what every NZ streaming service costs puts it next to ThreeNow and the paid services.

How far behind the UK is Coronation Street in NZ?
Not yet confirmed. TVNZ's page describes its episodes as “express episodes from the UK” and leaves it there, with no number of days or weeks. The Freeview guide doesn't help either, because it carries one general blurb for every screening and no episode number.
What we can set side by side is the shape of the two schedules. In Britain, ITV moved the soap to five half-hour episodes a week from January 2026, Monday to Friday at 8.30pm on ITV1, with each one on ITVX from 7am that day. That's two and a half hours a week.
TVNZ 1's three night slots add up to two hours in the guide: an hour on Wednesday 7 October, then half an hour each on Thursday 8 and Tuesday 13 October. Slot lengths include ad breaks, and New Zealand breaks don't match British ones, so that sum can't tell you whether the gap is holding steady. We'd rather leave the number blank than guess.
Is the 1.30pm Coronation Street a repeat?
TVNZ doesn't say. The lunchtime screening runs five days a week and the night one runs three, so the two can't be showing the same episodes one for one. Beyond that, neither the guide nor the TVNZ+ page labels the 1.30pm slot as a repeat or as older episodes.
It does make a tidy soap hour. Emmerdale at 1pm and Coronation Street at 1.30pm run back to back on TVNZ 1 from Monday to Friday, which mirrors the way ITV pairs them in the evening in Britain.
Why isn't Coronation Street on tonight?
Most often because it's a Friday, Saturday, Sunday or Monday. In the guide for 7 to 14 October the night-time episodes are on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday only, and there's nothing at the weekend at all, day or night.
If it's one of the three nights and you can't find it, check the start time before anything else. A 9.25pm start one Wednesday and 9.35pm the next is enough to miss the opening scene. TVNZ+ has the episode if the broadcast gets away on you.
We keep UK storylines off this page, since British viewers are ahead of New Zealand. For what's airing on ITV, our sister site UK Soap On Air follows the British schedule, spoilers and all.
